Are Lucifer and Satan the Same Being?
(Edit 4/16/08 - Below I state that none of the people to whom I’m linking in this blog are Luciferians or Satanists. Further research has shown that this statement is partially inaccurate. While I myself am neither of these things, and as Mark states below - he is an atheist, the other folks are associated with Theosophy which is connected to Lucifer worship. The Theosophists have also been deeply involved in the New World Order plot since the late 1800’s. You have been warned.)
Don’t worry, I’m not a Luciferian
or a Satanist, and neither are the folks to whom I’m linking in this post. We just live outside the bubble of organized religion and are therefore able to look at it from all angles. This post is not meant to promote or bash anything/anyone, but to show that just because you are told something, it doesn’t make it true. Christianity is a creation of man not God, and like humans, it is far from perfect. If you are truly firm in your beliefs then you should have no fear of this information. The truth is nothing to fear.

Lucifer is NOT Satan?
For the record, this blog is merely a reflection of an atheist’s study of hermeneutics, and not an attempt to argue the validity of a god.
The only mention of the name Lucifer in the Bible is in the book of Isaiah, chapter 14, verse 12:
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!” (KJV)
Now most christians today will tell you without hesitation that Lucifer is satan. Why? What is the meaning of all of a sudden using a different name to reference the devil? Most do not realize that there is only ONE mention of this name scriptually. The truth is, many scholars disagree as to exactly who Lucifer refers to.

Is there any difference between Lucifer and Satan? Westerners generally would say they are one and the same. Especially those in fundamentalist Christian circles consider Lucifer an archangel who fell from grace and was thrown out of heaven because of “sinful pride.” His “sin” was thinking he was equal to God and rebelling against Him. This rebellious angel is known as Satan, Lucifer, or the Devil, who tempts us to do evil. Supposedly, one of the most evil things Lucifer tempts us to do is to think that we are God. So those who believe in the essential divinity of all life are often accused of committing Satan’s sin, and of being under the influence of Lucifer. Where do these ideas about Satan and Lucifer come from? Is there a biblical basis for them?
Lucifer means lightbringer, from the Latin lux “light” and ferre “to bear or bring.” The word Lucifer is found in only one place in the Bible — Isaiah 14:12 — but only in the King James and related versions: “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! . . .” The New Revised Standard Version translates the same passage as “How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, Son of Dawn!” In other translations we find: “O shining star of the dawn!” (Moffatt) or “O morning-star, son of the dawn!” (Hebrew Bible). The King James Version is based on the Vulgate, the Latin translation of Jerome. Jerome translated the Hebrew helel (bright or brilliant one) as “lucifer,” which was a reasonable Latin equivalent. And yet it is this lucifer, the bright one or lightbearer, that came to be understood by so many as the name for Satan, Lord of Darkness.
Luciferian Worship: It’s beginning in Serpent, Dragon, and Sun Worship

When one speaks of Luciferian worship, the very idea comes as both a shock and an enigma for most people. Many people, especially Christians, find it very hard to believe that someone would worship Lucifer, the fallen angel, or Satan. Even non-religious people in our culture find Luciferian worship hard to swallow. Their attitude is primarily shaped by the fact that we live in a largely Judeo-Christian culture where Lucifer is anathema or an abomination being directly opposed to God.
Most students of the Bible and Christian ministers do not understand the philosophy or the rationale for the worship of Lucifer because they have a superficial understanding of ancient religious history and a total lack of understanding of the purpose of Elohim.

Lucifer is not Satan.
Isajah , see the context, is referring to a proud king, exalting himself. In ancient oriental times, kings where often worshipped as gods, for tha reason , the rebuking verses are adressed to the babylonian king.
Lucifer , in the hebrew text, is not exactly meaning lightbearer, there is an other possiblity to translate, if you put a jota to it, then it simply means, ” howl” !
Jesus speaks in similar words to the city of Karpharnaum, which was certainly not litterally in heaven and has not litterally fallen to the earth.
In revelation is the only passage that speaks about the angels at war in heaven.
The book of Hiob shows clearly, who the satan is, he is the accuser, he has only as much power as God gives him. The devil has the dirty work to do.
Thanks for your comment, 1arabella. Most of what you said is new to me, so I’ll look into it.
satan and lusifer are the same.
Not if you look at what is written vs. what you’ve been told.

This article has sparked a brilliant thought within my head, and that’s how philosophy can be used as a universal “language”, if you will, to explain or interoperate the meanings behind any religion/mythology or belief for that matter! Of course this is just a rhetorical question to thyself, of which the answer was found buried deep within my subconscious, or outside my primary string of thought. I am myself an agnostic; can anyone be so sure as to what happens after death? A Christian seems to think so, as do most of you atheist. Sorry if this comment offends people, it’s just that I’m an individual who lusts for the truth, what truth can be found after death in this life? I feel as if we have been mislead, Lucifer is not Satan, although it could be suggested, through personal opinion, that he may have later evolved into Satan, but this, I feel, is highly unlikely. They are two different manifestations of our imagination, two different beings, and in my personal opinion, I feel as though Lucifer may be right!? …..it’s a probable, logical possibility…
From what i’ve read it seems that lucifer and satan are the same being, however it’s likely that the name ‘Lucifer’ refers the angel ’son of the morning’ before his decent to darkness. After his decent the name ‘Satan’ was given as a means of differentiating between the angel from the devil the he had become. So in short ‘Lucifer’ was ‘Satan’s’ name before he commited sin and becaome the devil.
I am somewhat troubled by the popularity of this particular post. It gets well over 10x the views of my other posts - every day. Why is everyone so interested in Lucifer all of a sudden? Oh well - I guess I can’t pick which articles people read…but I feel that this is probably one of the least-important posts on the entire blog. But, if nothing else it might get some people to do some critical thinking. I just hope the popularity of this blog does not indicate a rising popularity in the worship of Lucifer. Worship will get you no where. For a being to be all-knowing and all-powerful, the being would have to be without ego. Think about it - why would anything that is good and all-knowing want to be worshiped? Why would he/she/it throw temper tantrums? Worship is in vain, in my opinion, and this opinion comes from studying religious texts as well as other things. Just take in as much knowledge as you can with an open mind and be the best person you can be, not according to anyone else’s standards but by what you truly know to be right. People who do bad things know that they are doing bad things deep down in their hearts, so - stop it!
Since so many people are reading this I guess I should just go ahead and say this:
Christians - Your religion was created based on a great man who taught the truth, but it has been completely corrupted since his death. Understand that even in his own time Jesus knew that this would happen and even mentioned it. If you want to know the truth then actually read the Bible for yourself! Once you’re done with that go out and pick yourself up a copy of all of the books that have been banned by the Church, the reason they are banned is because they threaten the Church’s version of Christianity by revealing more truth than the King James Bible. Learn about the history of your religion. Then when you’re done with all of that go and read about other religions - you will be amazed at the similarities. All of the things about your religion that have confused you throughout the years confuse you because of man’s alterations. Once you get past all of that stuff, it all makes much more sense. Also - you might as well throw out the Old Testament all-together. If you want to side with “the Church” then the God of the New and Old Testaments are one in the same. If you want to side with Jesus then the Old Testament God is not really God at all, but an evil dictator. Those tantrums make a lot more sense now, don’t they?
Atheists, Agnostics, etc. -
I used to count myself among your ranks, but no longer. All I wish to say to you is that just because organized religion is full of B.S. and corruption - that doesn’t mean that there is no God. If you have really done your homework and you are atheist or agnostic, that’s fine. But if you are atheist/agnostic because you reject the common concept of God and Heaven/Hell, then you need to do some studying. The reason that none of it makes sense is because it was purposely made that way. The people who have made our religions into what they are today did not do it to help people understand spirituality, but to enslave them through their ignorance of spirituality. Just something to think about.
The Illuminati’s One World Religion is Here - WWJD?
Though most people won’t be convinced since this scripture isn’t acknowledged by many other churches and religions than mine, the name Lucifer is mentioned two times more. In 2 Nephi 24:12, and Doctrine and Covenants 76:26.
The first is merely a quotation of the Isaiah verse, with a foot note confirming 1arabella’s reply that it’s meant to refer to the fallen king of Babylon, though says that king was typified by Lucifer as mentioned in the second verse. (D&C)
This second is more convincing:
25. And we saw also, and bear record, that an angel of God who was in authority in the presence of God (…
was thrust down from the presence of God and the Son,
26. And was called Perdition, (though not exact, this can be translated as Satan) for the heavens wept over him–he was Lucifer, a son of the morning.
(…
28. And while we where yet in the Spirit, the Lord commanded us that we should write the vision, for we beheld Satan, that old serpent, even the devil, who rebelled against God, and sought to take the kingdom of our God and his Christ.
This clearly suggests that Lucifer was indeed an angel, who fell and became the Satan as he betrayed God.
Now I’m not trying to force my opinion on everyone about that Satan and Lucifer are the same. It’s up to oneself whether to believe. The verses are banned by most all churches after all, and I don’t like this ’scripture war’ of people trying to convince by quoting scriptures. I’m just showing the subject from an other point of view.
You don’t seem forceful to me, Spencer. You can quote whatever scriptures you like here. I frequently reference the Nag Hammadi scriptures and those aren’t recognized by most. I personally believe that the validity of all scriptures should be in question since it was all written by men, usually men in very powerful positions. To me God is about love and freedom, people in powerful positions generally don’t like love and freedom.
OK…back to the issue of the popularity of this blog post.
It turns out that people aren’t coming here to READ this post, but to snag the picture of Lucifer. How disappointing! :/
lol.. next time, use a crappy cartoon picture.
Well, some of those people must be clicking on other stuff once they get here, so I guess it’s not so bad.
umm, im just researching to better understand things cuz i see a way bigger picture for everything. i was raised catholic but even as a child i didnt buy in any of the teachings. in any case all of these commets were very insightful and i thank you for that.
I came across this website because I did a Lucifer image search on google. I did the search with the intent of reading the site that the image belonged to, and I must say, I got what I wanted! Recently I’ve had a growing interest in the origins of the name Lucifer, and I’ve been telling people that Satan and Lucifer are not the same. This site reinforces what I already knew, and now I can refer people to this site when they don’t believe me, or when they think I’m making it up.
I’m glad you found what you were looking for, Uriel. This is but a minor footnote in the huge encyclopedia-size book of lies they’re feeding us. Please browse around on my blog for further mind-blowing.
Enrique:
It is always good to question everything. Just remember that you must question this material just as much as you would question the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Keep in mind that there are many Luciferians who are no bad people, but many of the people who wish to control the world are Luciferians and they want you to be one yourself. It’s a sad situation. You can’t really trust anything you read or hear.
Truly, the path to spiritual enlightenment (and to the truth in general) is one you must travel on your own, since no one can be trusted to guide you along the path without taking you on a detour. Listen to everyone, read everything, trust nothing, follow no one.
That’s my advice anyway…but you shouldn’t trust me.
